Our Money And It's Uses

With the election 'looming in our headlights' there has been substantial interest from European countries as to just what the outcome may result. As a local reporter admits, 'Generally the average American could care less why the nations in the EU think however, with the US being the superpower we are, our president is the leader of the free world'. I happen to agree with some exception. Most countries around the globe do receive a great deal of foreign aid from the US, and depending on the outcome may very well be the complete end of those funds or at very least a significant decrease. Both major candidates have advocated the decrease of funding overseas, but if Obama truly wants to improve the image of the US, nothing says 'we love America' better than a fat check of American taxpayer dollars for whatever it is that a particular country wants financed. McCain hasn't given too much detail about his foreign aid that goes out, but he has previously stated that we do give much every where and need to focus on American soil.
I remember several years ago just prior to the Gulf War, the US was in the process of forgiving a multi billion dollar debt from Egypt. The only real problem about that issue was the fact that while the US was wanting to exhibit superpower status, our military, who was actively preparing for action against Iraqi occupied Kuwait, wasn't qualifying for hazard duty pay. (Usually entailed an additional 100 dollars per month) At the time I suppose it was more important to forgive than pay was what my take was back then. Several military officials stepped up to the plate to make absolute certain that our military was going to be compensated (I remember it well) for our contribution to the global efforts to eliminate Saddam Hussein.
At the end of the day, everyone, including our global allies, are as interested in the outcome of the current election as the American people. We the taxpayers are concerned about our money and its uses, our allies are concerned about our money and its uses.
